NAB Transfers Safe Deposit Boxes To Guardian Vaults
After a long history in provision of safe custody services, NAB is exiting this service Australia-wide in the coming months. To provide surety to the approximate 10,000 customers storing at the 271 Collins Street Melbourne and 343 George Street Sydney vaults, NAB has reached an agreement with Guardian Vaults to provide a simple and easy transition for an ongoing service.
Constructed in 1929, the historic building located at 271 Collins Street Melbourne was the former NAB headquarters during the early years of Melbourne’s development. NAB’s secure safe deposit box facility is situated in the basement, on the lower ground level. Guardian Vaults has entered into a long-term lease of the premises enabling NAB customers to seamlessly transition across to Guardian and remain in their existing safe deposit box. Early in 2022, Guardian Vaults will also complete a full suite of upgrades at the premises, to further enhance the level of security.

Located at 343 George Street Sydney is the heritage-listed former bank building. With the NAB exiting the secure storage facility, Guardian Vaults can provide NAB customers with a safe and secure relocation of their precious items to their existing high security vault at Lower Ground, 151 Castlereagh Street in the Sydney CBD.
There are a wide range of safe deposit boxes, lock boxes and envelopes that will be transitioned across to Guardian Vaults during the process, providing the continued safe keeping of valuables, gold and silver bullion, documents and family heirlooms.
NAB is not the only major bank taking a step towards exiting the safe deposit box business in recent years. ANZ closed down their Queen Street Melbourne branch in 2017, transferring the role of safe-keeping to Guardian Vaults’ William Street facility.
Guardian Vaults continues to expand its operations in both Sydney and Melbourne with the installation of additional safe deposit boxes and safes as well as the continued investment in the latest technology to enhance its level of security.
The latest addition of the 271 Collins Street facility further positions Guardian Vaults as Australia’s leading private vaulting facility.
